Profile

Professional profile of Federica Gazzelloni, statistician, actuary, data scientist, instructor, and R community organizer.

STATISTICIAN | ACTUARY | DATA SCIENTIST

I work across health metrics, actuarial modelling, machine learning, and data visualisation. My focus is on making analytical work clear, practical, and reproducible, using R and Python.

My background spans insurance and pensions, research, and teaching. Following the COVID-19 outbreak, I began focusing on health data and infectious disease modelling. As a member of the Global Burden of Disease collaborator network, I contribute to the review of global health research.

I am the author of Health Metrics and the Spread of Infectious Diseases: Machine Learning Applications and Spatial Modelling Analysis with R, published by CRC Press in 2025. The book brings together health metrics, statistical methods, and worked examples in R. Explore the book and its companion resources.

As a certified Carpentries instructor, I teach programming, data wrangling, statistical modelling, and reproducible workflows. My workshops and recorded materials support learners in moving from concepts to practical analysis.

I lead R-Ladies Rome and Rome R Users Group, organising events where people can learn, share their work, and build connections. I also develop R packages and share examples through my writing and open-source projects.

My current work connects research, teaching, and DataMetricus consultancy. In Notes on Data and Learning, I reflect on data, modelling, and what we learn through practice.
